Destination Alaska

Idea
Destination America aired a special five-hour version of its hit series ‘Railroad Alaska’ over the Thanksgiving weekend. The programme detailed every step of the journey taken by a train travelling across the Alaskan railroad network, and was self-described by the channel as a ‘snoozefest’. The idea was to create the perfect programme for the post thanksgiving meal – one that would easily allow tired diners to grab some shut-eye, and Destination America some column inches
What We Like
IW likes to think far-off-future generations will stumble on this show and think 21st century television viewers were all into weird long-form, post-modern, art
Learnings
Boring isn’t always bad – and the strength of your content can be determined by the set and setting in which it’s viewed as much as any other factor
