Mattel has launched a limited edition Barbie range. It features a host of body types, all with far more lifelike proportions and skin tones than the iconic Barbie herself. As far as IW could tell the only lifelike character the diverse range was missing was a ‘Broken Dreams Barbie’ which could have included a pack of Marlboro cigarettes and a small one-bedroom flat play-set

What We Didn't Like

Mattel is way behind the zeitgeist here, and IW’s not a fan of the limited-run nature of the range

Learnings

If you’re an iconic brand, updating your mainstay product is going to grab headlines. Be careful though, as a limited-run update could cause a backlash when you return to the status quo
