A wonderful campaign from Amnesty International Turkey to voice high concerns around the population’s growing homophobic opinions.

Amnesty came up with a simple idea: filmed in a pet shop, customers are looking at pet turtles to potentially buy. Once they have set their eyes on one, the vendor reveals that the turtle they picked is gay. Customers voice sad and painful-to-watch concerns about buying a gay pet. None of them end up taking the gay turtle home.

What We Like

We loved the fact that they picked such a sensitive topic and decided to do a social experiment on people via turtles, an inoffensive animal. The fact that they created the gay turtle experiment sounds risible and at the same time, shows the absurdity of the situations. Amnesty has used actors to film this video, all voicing homophobic opinions and views that commonly heard in Turkey, but this film remains nonetheless very shocking.
